The cross of Jesus has never found a prominent home in the restored Church of Jesus Christ. One of Faith Matters founders penned a touching article on that topic for Faith Matters some time ago called The Day I was Drawn to the Cross.

We revisited that subject this week when John Hilton III dropped by our studio to talk about his new book Considering the Cross, which was published by Deseret Book earlier this year.

We loved this book and John’s really thoughtful approach to this topic, which helped us see how bringing Christ’s crucifixion, and even the symbol of the cross, more prominently into our discourse and culture could really enhance and broaden our worship experience and our spiritual lives.

John is an associate professor of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University. Prior to BYU, John worked with the LDS Seminary and Institute program for eleven years in a variety of capacities. John has a Masters degree from Harvard and a Ph.D from BYU, both in Education. John and his wife Lani have six children.
